Driving Trip To Pasadena, California (and back)
December 26, 2006 - January 6, 2007

With the Lakeville North Marching Band appearing in the Tournament of Roses parade on January 1, 2007, my Mom and I decided to drive out and back (since I knew I couldn't get her onto a plane!). We had a great trip. We drove more-or-less straight out, but then did some meandering on the way back.

The first stop we made was to "check off" the last of the major Little House on the Prairie sites across the country.

I've been to all of them except the location of this book, in Kansas. It was only about 45 miles off of our track, so we did the detour.

It was COLD and the associated museum was closed, but at least I got to stand on the land and look around at the location.

Our second stop was Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona. It was another spot that I've wanted to visit since I was a kid.

I took a 1-mile hike around this area and took a bunch of pictures. This one does a good job of showing the kind of terrain and the scattered pieces of petrified wood.

There were many, many roads like this one.

We deviated from I-40 several times to follow old Route 66. I don't remember where this photo was taken, or if it was even along Route 66....but it shows what our scenery looked like for days...and days!

The last stop we made before getting into LA was to swing through Joshua Tree National Park.

You can see that we've had beautiful weather and nice clear skies (except some snow in Arizona and rain in New Mexico)
